Global Scholar Initiative

The Global Scholar Initiative is a new international outreach program of the American Rhinologic Society (ARS), created to foster global collaboration and support the professional development of early-career rhinologists seeking short-term observerships at U.S. rhinology institutions.

This initiative aims to:

  1. Promote meaningful exchange of clinical and academic knowledge
  2. Support early-career rhinologists in their career advancement
  3. Amplify the international presence and mission of ARS.

Each year, two outstanding senior residents (future rhinology fellows), fellows, or early-career rhinologists (within 6 years of completing training), particularly those from low- or middle-income countries or nations affiliated with ARS Memoranda of Understanding (MOU), will be selected to participate.

Program Components

  • Minimum 2-week observership at a U.S. academic rhinology institution
  • Participation in ARS Annual Meeting,including optional faculty mentorship,
  • A 2-day hands-on cadaver dissection program at the Medtronic Training Center in Jacksonville, Florida.

Awardees will receive

  • A $2,500 educational grant (sponsored by Medtronic),
  • Complimentary registration to the ARS Annual Meeting, and
  • Support for travel to the Medtronic dissection program.

Application Requirements

  • Completed application form with 300-word self-introduction,
  • A letter of recommendation from a mentor at the applicant’s home institution (one page max)
    • This letter should be written by a supervisor, department chair, or mentor at the applicant’s home institution. It should:
      • Describe the applicant’s professional credentials, expertise, and achievements.
      • Endorse the applicant’s participation in the program.
      • Confirm that his/her career development.
  • A letter from a U.S. host faculty confirming support for the observership (one page max)

    • This letter should be provided by a mentor, collaborator, or host faculty member at the institution where the applicant intends to visit. It should:
      • Confirm the willingness of the host to sponsor and mentor the applicant during the visit.
      • Reflect the institutional readiness to accommodate the visitor for the stated duration.
