Congress Halts Medicare Physician Payment Cut for Remainder of 2012

Earlier today, the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate passed legislation to halt, for the remainder of 2012, the 27.4 percent cut in Medicare physician payments scheduled to take effect on March 1. Medicare physician payment rates will instead remain frozen at their current level. Although this latest legislative compromise averts a disastrous cut, it does nothing to address the underlying and ongoing problems associated with the flawed Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula.



HHS Announces Intent to Delay ICD-10 Compliance Date

In an effort to reduce regulatory burdens on providers, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary, Kathleen G. Sebelius, announced yesterday that the HHS will initiate a process to postpone the compliance date for implementation of ICD-10.
