First Vice Presidents Report - Committee on Committees

Our Society continues to grow and maintain its position as the leader on issues of sinus and anterior skull base diseases. Our successful scientific meetings serve as a medium to exchange ideas and discuss issues that face our subspecialty, with the central mission of improving patient care. But most of the energy that permeates our society originates directly from its members and manifests through its elected officers and most importantly, through the activities of the various society committees. It is through the committees that projects, issues and activities are fine-tuned and then reach the board of directors for action. It is through the committee structure that members can have their voices heard, to become more involved in the leadership of the society, to network with other members who have similar interests, and collectively through the committee activities influence the direction of our subspecialty as a whole. So far the successes of this model are astounding. To discuss a few, the education committee led by chairman Todd Kingdom developed the Rhinology Fellowship Match Program that standardized the fellowship application and interview process and has resulted in a successful match that is now rated as outstanding by most participants. The patient advocacy committee led by Mike Setzen has addressed critical coding issues and the CME committee led by Jim Palmer successfully maintained our credentials. The program committee led by the president elect each year has selected outstanding abstracts for presentation at our scientific meetings and the corporate affiliates program led by Paul Toffel has brought record support to our young faculty investigators and residents. Positions on most of our committees are available every year and I strongly urge you to consider serving. The future of our society depends on your involvement as the ARS would not be able to fulfill its mission goals without you. Please review the committee listing at www.american-rhinologic.org and contact us at wendi.perez@gmail.com with your interests. This is the time to serve and be heard.
